Return from high-risk areas: RDA advocates a simplified procedure for implementation of "digital exit tickets" for coach transport

COVID-19

Yesterday, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Homeland Affairs (BMI) held the first all-day workshop in Berlin on the introduction of the planned "digital boarding pass".

Addressing representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), the Federal Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (BMVI), local health authorities, as well as rail and air transport, the RDA presented concrete proposals for a simplified procedure for implementing the "digital exit ticket" for coach transport.

The core issue is the digital provision of travel data and their secure transmission to the responsible authorities. This travel data should enable local health authorities to effectively monitor mandatory quarantine measures for travellers from risk areas.

From the point of view of the RDA, the first step should be to use the pre-filled paper exit card, which is largely machine-readable. In a second step, it should be possible to replace the pre-completed exit ticket by transmitting travel data via a standardised interface.

"In view of the rising number of infections and a possible increase in risk areas, the RDA believes that the "digital exit ticket" should be technically implemented for coach transport in such a way that the burden on medium-sized bus operators and coach tour operators is kept to a minimum. Although there are still a number of technical and legal issues to be clarified, we have come a step closer to this goal today," said RDA President Benedikt Esser after the event.
