The bestselling writer of “The Shell Seekers” and author of many televised romantic novels popular among German coach holidaymakers died on 6th February 2019 following a short illness. Rosamunde Pilcher was probably better known and more popular in Germany than in her home country of England. Leading German TV station ZDF’s filming of Pilcher’s novels – broadcast at peak time on Sunday evenings at 8.15 pm – and their thematic inspiration and adoption by German ‘Paketer’ and UK coach tourism specialists led to the rapid growth and ongoing popularity of Pilcher’s native Cornwall and Southern England as a best-selling coach holiday destination.
