Passenger rights travelling by bus and coach

Stephen Smith, EACT Chairman

The European Commission held a conference on the implementation of the regulation of 2011 on rights of passengers travelling by bus and coach on 6th September in Brussels. Attendees of the conference were National Enforcement Bodies of the EU Member States as well as different stakeholders.

Stephen Smith, EACT-Chairman, and Sandra van de Walle, RDA-Representative in Brussels, attended the conference and Stephen was invited by the Commission to present EACT and its activities. He also gave a sound overview on technical details related to the regulation.

Other topics were the transport of mobility scooters in buses and coaches, activity reports of the National Enforcement Bodies, the use of exemptions by the different Member States as well as the presentation of a modal complaint form. It was pointed out, that transportation of mobility scooters in Member States is handled differently and that they are not explicitly covered by the regulation. The Commission disclosed that the model complaint form would not be mandatory but could be used as an example.

It was further mentioned that the Commission is not planning to review the current regulation.
