The 36th Day of Coach Tourism will take place on Monday, 8th January 2018 in the beautiful Saarbrücker Schloss in Saarbrücken, with a popular and informal B2B networking get-together on the evening of Sunday, 7th January 2018.

The subject of this industry conference is “Thematic Tours” – themed tours and events being as important today as ever before for the coach and group travel sectors.

Situated next to the French border, Saarbrücken is the federal state capital, administrative, economic and cultural heart of the Saarland, with a population of 184,000 inhabitants and more than 15,000 business enterprises. Saarbrücken was created just over a century ago in 1909 with the merger of three towns – Saarbrücken, St. Johann and Malstatt-Burbach. It used to be the industrial and transport centre of the Saar coal basin. Products included iron and steel, sugar, beer, pottery, optical instruments, machinery and construction materials.

In the 20th century, Saarbrücken was separated from Germany on two occasions after the first and second world wars: In 1920–35 as capital of the Territory of the Saar Basin and in 1947–56 as capital of the Saar Protectorate.

Today, Saarbrücken is an important nodal point in the Saar-Lorraine-Luxembourg EU region with its French flair, picturesque Altstadt (Old City Area) and lively cultural offerings. Popular coach and group visitor attractions include the Old Bridge (1546), St. Johann Town Hall, St. Johann Basilica, Ludwig’s Church, Invisible Memorial Square, the 18th century Saarbrücken Castle, the Palace Square, St. Johanner Market, gothic St. Arnual Old City Quarter, the Shopping Mile and Roman Bridge Thermal Power Station.
The Day of Coach Tourism is the industry’s annual kick-off event. In 2018, the hosts are Visit Saarland and the Saarbrücker Schloss
Participation is free of charge and open to trade members only.

Your input and ideas are much appreciated and are most welcome in advance of the event. So please contact RDA CEO and Day of Coach Tourism initiator Dieter Gauf if you would like to make such a valuable contribution (dieter.gauf @gauf-germany .de).
