EACT AGM 2016 in London

The European Alliance for Coach Tourism (EACT) held its 2016 AGM on 15th March 2016 in London.  Themes such as the EU Road Package Initiative and VAT reform in the EU were on the agenda. The situation for coach tourism arising from coach access impediments in Paris, Rome and Florence was also discussed. EACT members are looking for solutions that will facilitate coach tour access to such  “jewels in the tourism crown”.

Mr. Simon Lusby, Senior Public Transport Manager at ‘Transport for London’, presented a comprehensive overview of plans for optimizing limited capacities in London (e.g. coach parking, bus stops and bus lanes). Planning was of a very practical nature, with factors such as coach drivers’ rest periods during visits being taken into consideration. After a presentation on alternative fuels (GTL), EACT members discussed their potential uses for tour coaches. The refugee crisis in Europe, coach transport for refugees and the effects of the current situation on tourism was a further topic.

RDA CEO Dieter Gauf attended the EACT AGM on behalf of the RDA-International Coach Tourism Federation. He informed participants about the RDA-Workshop 2016 in Cologne and its prologue exhibition in Friedrichshafen. EACT expressly welcomed the new RDA-Workshop in Friedrichshafen, which offers buyers an additional and earlier purchasing platform. Italy has already registered a high-level visitor delegation of seven tourism directors. Delegations are also announced from Belgium, France and the U.K. EACT will also be represented in Friedrichshafen at the RDA federation stand in the East Foyer (Foyer Ost).
