Cologne – an ancient and lively RDA Group Travel 2017 host city

Cologne is Germany's fourth-largest city (population 2014 of 1,046,680) and is located on both sides of the scenic Rhine River. It was founded and established in the first century AD as the Roman Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium. It is awash with Roman relics and archaeology and exciting excavations of its downtown medieval streetscapes. The city's famous Gothic Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the largest in the world (http://www.koelner-dom.de/home.html?&L=1). The University of Cologne is also one of Europe's oldest and largest universities, which accounts for the lively and youthful feel to the city’s squares, streets, bars and restaurants (http://www.portal.uni-koeln.de/uoc_home.html?L=1). Cologne is a major cultural, fashion, media, tourist and shopping centre - home to more than thirty museums, hundreds of galleries and to the world-famous Koelsch beer. The Chocolate Museum is also a sweet and popular coach group stop (http://www.schokoladenmuseum.de/de/). And as a coach travel professional one should never forget Cologne’s popular and colourful Christmas Markets (http://www.cologne.de/events/christmas-markets).
